Aisha is (more or less) the protagonist of the story, a cheerful, open hearted girl with great sword skills tempered by a rather cheerful and laid back view of life. With no desire for authority, no great love of killing and an ability to find a ray of sunshine no matter her situation, Aisha has no idea what she wants to do with her life and isn’t really too concerned.
Aisha is designed to centre the story, as I believe a troubled, broken main character tends to bog down the narrative and annoy the viewer. She has a lot of problems, both past and future, but she works through them in a reasonably healthy way.

Sessana is the second main character, a general in the Kingdom of Veldine. In comparison to the seventeen year old Aisha she’s a thirty six year old mother of two, a loyal and decorated career solider with many battles under her belt. Kind and compassionate, but made into a weapon by others, she is forced to wrestle with how to do the right thing when the right thing hurts her country and those she loves.

Brom is a character in Aisha’s story, a hulking native of the barbarian plains. Despite his appearance however Brom is bluntly compassionate and gentle, never shy in his convictions and with a firm sense of justice. He is forced to consider his own destiny for the first time, a hard thing for a man who has always followed another.

Lucille is a character in Aisha’s story, a pale, beautiful enigma to most. Born to a noble family, gifted with a stunning figure and looks she none the less seems untalented in her lessons and cold and unsociable out of them. Friends with Aisha by sheer stubbornness on Aisha’s part, she has opened up a little to them but still keeps much of herself hidden, coming out in violent displays of sudden emotion.
